Watching the wheel of the year turn, remembering the ancestors…

“…They’re setting fire to the cornfields
As you’re taking me home…”

Bright blessings to all who mark this short moment of liminal time and space…

Alban Hefin (Summer Solstice) 2016

sunrisebehindheelstoneAnother turn of the wheel of the seasons, the cycle of life, death and rebirth – and this year, the Summer Solstice and the full moon (Rose Moon) happen together for the first time in 40 years.

As ever, bright blessings to all who mark the solstice today, may awen flow into and through you, may you flow into and through awen, may everything find its equilibrium… Blessed be…

Calan Mai 2016

Here in my small corner of the city, the flowers of the May tree are beginning to bloom but still have a little way to go yet. Soon, though. Soon…

“If there’s a bustle in your hedgerow, don’t be alarmed now
It’s just a spring clean for the May Queen…”

May the Beltane fires cleanse and protect us all, and all that we hold dear.

While I wait, I light candles and meditate on what has been, what is and what may yet come to pass.

Bright blessings to all who mark the moment today

Brighid’s Day 2016

Bright blessings who mark Imbolc today!

The wheel of the year turns again and, hopefully, we’ll start to move towards Spring and leave behind the cold, dark days and nights of Winter. Of course, nothing is guaranteed – the accelerating effects of climate change are on my mind daily and where, in my younger years, the seasons were quite well-defined, it seems to me that everything has blurred noticeably in recent times.

There also seem to be a greater number of extreme weather events globally and I find myself facing the coming months and years with a distinct sense of apprehension and general gloom, particularly when I consider that the answer to these problems lies in the hands of my fellow humans. Here’s hoping we can begin to work towards restoring the balance sooner rather than later…

Winter solstice 2015

I have recently been reviewing an album (Songs of Separation: Reflections on the Parting of Ways) which was recorded on the Isle of Eigg. As part of my preliminary research, I did some background reading about the Isle and found out that, apparently, it has only one menhir (standing stone). I’ve been quite taken with what I’ve read of the Isle – I think the album is pretty good, too! – and have been thinking a fair bit about the achievements of the present Islanders, so it seems somehow appropriate on this solstice day to post this picture of the solitary menhir of Eigg (source: notjamesbond at The Modern Antiquarian)

To all who mark this day, this short moment of equilibrium in the turning of the wheel of the year: blessings be…

Watching the wheel of the year turn, remembering the ancestors…

“Arawen came to find me. As beautiful as could be, long dark hair curling round her shoulders, down to her waist, eyes as grey as the mist over water.”

Bright blessings to all who mark the moment, may awen flow into and through you, may you flow into and through awen, may everything find its equilibrium…
Blessed be…
